Veiga

After a hectic explosion onto the dance music scene, Veiga, aka Nathan Roussos, is rapidly becoming known as a distinctive DJ who has a passion for dance music. Since his debut performance at Funk Fest in October 2001, Veiga’s love for all styles has been a distinctive trademark that has garnered him a huge following and numerous accolades and respect from his peers. It’s a trademark defined by a dedication to style, technique and some truly funk beats.

Be it tribal African, Latin or Melodic techno, Veiga’s talent is matched only by his versatility. And despite his relative “freshness” to the scene as a DJ, his versatility and talent has led to regular residencies at J-Flight, MixtaPe and Dark n Dirty, along with regular guest appearances at Brisbane’s best and exclusive clubs and events Liquid Bass, Moonbar and Expedition.

The seeds were sown at the young age of 18, when Veiga moved to Los Angeles. Exposure to the underground warehouse, desert and mountain raves and witnessing classic sets from the likes of Richie Hawtin and Ben Sims saw Veiga commence his journey in electronica and the quest for a unique, striking sound.

On his return to Australia, Veiga brought with him the intentions of starting a DJ Agency and assisting the development of local DJs who are young, dedicated and talented. The dream kicked off in 2001 with Veiga signing successful local DJ Brad Revell to the Jencorp Agency. Since then Jencorp grew to manage 33 local & international artists, from Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, Belguim & the UK. With the success of Jencorp, Veiga handed over the reins of the Agency in 2004 to a fellow participant who was keen to keep it running on a smaller scale, as Veiga’s focus was now on expanding Dark n Dirty events and personal promotion. Playing alongside international acts as Ken Ishii, Woody McBride, Simon Digby, Romel Johan and Kazu Kimura generated further exposure and work for Veiga and the motivation to expand his horizons beyond the local Brisbane scene.

Veiga is the founder and driving force behind past and current events Dark n Dirty, J-Flight, OzSessions, Funk Fest, Sunday Skool & Movement. The continual focus: bringing “fun” and fresh underground DJ blood back to the Australian/Asian dance culture. This attitude of fun and freshness is keeping true to Veiga’s own sets and has been a key to his, and Dark n Dirty’s, success on a local, national and international stage.

2006 has seen no letting up for Veiga, with plans to expand Dark n Dirty events throughout Asia, launching in Malaysia and China, while assisting in tour management for international artists such as Chris Finke, Christian Smith and Romel Johan. 2006 has also seen to further work on his own music production, assisting in the debut of a new Brisbane nightclub and holding residencies at Dark n Dirty and MixtaPe. All this with another planned Asian tour to follow up past tours of Europe and Asia in 2004 and 2005 respectively, will surely assist Veiga with his career and continue goals to promote Dark n Dirty events, sound and artists on an International level.
