simpleman's graphic novel. shadow's arms

i chose to do my graphic novels because of the restrictions i face in shooting corporate videos and before it kills all the creative juices in me, at least i get to storyboard something the way i want it.
sadly, i don't get to do music videos, experimental films and short films like i used to.
so the next best option is to take a poem or a song or any writing at all and try to put them into storyboards.
at least it appeases my soul.

tune in here NOW for sweetmusic.fm LIVE! thursday special

Time My Cruel Friend.

It was a dark, rainy night.

No, of course it wasn't. It would be great if it was though. It only happens in composition tests and exams, where the given phrase would kick start the path to doom. Oh no. The powers that be are recollecting memories I've long stashed away. I can almost feel it. The ambition i had to write immaculately detailed essays, not leaving a tear out of the 'emotions' i welled inside the silo of my teenage soul, only to be given a C for my O levels. I would settle for a C in mathematics or my second language anytime. But not English. It is something I've taken pride in, sort of a manifesto, a change i could contribute to a ethnic race I'm not particular in favour with. Shit does happen of course. Disappointment is something i've grown accustomed to. I'm so used to it to the point that I'm bored by it. It branches even further from the exam i sat for almost a decade ago.
Expectations and disappointments have become sort of a dynamic duo. Batman and Robin. Lone Ranger and Tonto. Green Hornet and Kaito. The Shokubutsu facial wash and the body scrub package. So i figured, since i can't have that particular Shokubutsu Orange peel facial wash without buying the shower cream, which i already have, then be it. And thanks to this brave attitude, the weight of having great weekends have lightened. Gone are the expectations of wonderful Saturdays with mates, laughing on and maybe, just maybe have an elbow rubbed with random girls, because like the exams, they never turn out right. It's always a blank, clueless night and an expensive cab ride home.

late nights.
cigarettes.
double malt whiskey.
and songs like these are perfect companions for the lonely soul.

i spend a lot of nights in the darkness listening to these songs and try to imagine myself in a jazz bar somewhere far away wearing a suit, cigarette in my hands and watch the world before me.

so here i am, bearing my soul to you... sharing the songs that reach deep into my heart, and wishing that i can tell you how i feel.

Is It Really So Strange?
Utilising a series of black-and-white photographs, William E. Jones explores the Moz mania or the cult following of Stephen Morrissey, the former front man and singer/songwriter of The Smiths that has hit the eastern suburbs of Los Angeles amongst the Latino and Hispanic kids. The “re-discovery” of Morrissey’s music amongst Latino and Hispanic youths underlines the latent alienation of migrant youth culture from the mainstream and also shows that Morissey’s mysterious sexuality remains a touchstone for the gay community.

Mysterious clues seem to be hidden on record covers and in songs. When this information strikes a Detroit radio station, it spreads like wildfire around the world. But did McCartney really die? Wouter van Opdorp unravels, for the first time, the true story behind one of the greatest mysteries in the history of rock ‘n’ roll.

indie pop!!

here we go!!!

the go! team - feelgood by numbers

all the way from brighton, england, we have a refreshing blast of Day-Glo bubble-dance-pop that could crack a smile on even the most frozen of faces. hahaz how about that?! from the go! team's 2004 first and only album "thunder, lightning, strike", we have a tune that could crack the smooth white skin of my big ass butt...

all girls summer fun band - tour heart throb

4 lovely, fun-loving ladies all the way from portland somewheresomewhere, who sing us warm, breezy pop with oodles of "oohs" and "shooby-doos". take off your bikinis girls! n come jiggle with me!! woooooo...

tullycraft - girl about town

from the seattle trio's latest offering, "disenchanted hearts unite", they sang us sugary sweet songs with janglily guitars with the distinct "uh oh"s from the female backing vocal. sounds like belle n sebastian's sister band. very nice...

architecture in helsinki - do the whirlwind

ok there are about 8 of them. from melbourne(nice city) australia. the band's musical arsenal feature instruments as diverse as analog synths and samplers, glockenspiel, tuba, clarinet, and recorder along with the more predictable drums, bass, and guitar. steady la. i only know how to play the tambourine, can i join?

the bartlebees - she loves monsters

german old-school-pop three-piece indie band. apparently they have been around since 1991. check out their myspace.

belle n sebastian - another sunny day

this scottish 7piece took their name from a french children television series about a boy n his dog. simple as that! what more can i say about them? best of the lot. they have a new cd out "the life pursuit". check it out....

mister maroon's essentials vol.1

i feel rejuvenated after attending two fantastic gigs yesterday.
kings of convenience was the best gig i've ever attended so far.
i can't really say how wonderful they are and they sounded so much better live.
and i can still feel the music tingling in my veins.
the quantum lounge set at home club is fantastic as usual, playing their signature selections and genre.
and now i present to you my essential selections. :)
it's something i haven't done in a while, choosing and selecting music that moves me. that i love, that is in constant rotation in my ipod.

so enjoy my first mix of essentials.

6pack with misterBlack show 28

6pack.v28

in this morning grey - uncut

they are said to be canada's answer to interpol. a song from their 2004 album "those who were hung hang here". post punk i say...

sugarcube - yo la tengo

a classic from a classic band. yo la tengo is spanish for "i've got it!". serious.
an indie band whos been making music for almost 20years now. last year they put out a sort-of greatest hits double CDs, "Prisoners of Love: A Smattering of Scintillating Senescent Songs: 1985-2003". this is a song from the CDs. i love it. check it out.

glasgow mega snake - mogwai

post rock band mogwai is from glasgow, scotland. and here is a song about a hugh snake they found in their hometown. i think. something from their new album, "mr. beast". just out earlier this month. this time round their songs are much shorter, more straight to the point, right upto your face. beware...
all thanks to mister gold, mega mega mogwai fan, who passed me the cd. thanks ah, steady pompeepee.

exhausted - foo fighters

pure aggressive sound. primal sonic. distorted melodies. a song from a dave-grohl-only-foo fighters first very self-titled album. oh n i just got a very nice foo fighters t shirt recently..

solvent - charmparticle

portland, oregon band charmparticle has hint of a mixture of my bloody valentine n slowdive. swirling melodies, thick layers of guitars, and plenty of reverb and delay. nice shoegazing. this is a track from their 2004 release "sit down for staying".

it's over - canadians

havent had a clue about them. just happened to bump into this track over at sixeyes. anyone knows anything?
